Route economics

…Modeled monthly price required per home at your target margin, including the value of your work
…Monthly revenue
…Monthly costs including labor
…Residual after modeled costs
…Margin at entered fee
…Modeled monthly route hours
…Break-even homes*
…Cash per worked hour before taxes, before paying yourself

Results are illustrative.

*Break-even home count assumes per-home work and total route travel remain constant as you add homes; actual travel may grow. The calculator uses 52/12 weeks per month, includes a labor allowance, and does not include taxes or financing unless you enter them as costs.

What drives the price of curbside bin service?

Route density: A group of nearby homes requires less travel than scattered clients. Scope: Moving bins out and back involves two distinct visits, not just the collection-day walk. Reliability: Snow, holidays, unsafe access, animals, late municipal pickup and property permission can change the work.

What do real providers charge?

Published services in different cities advertise different terms. Bin Buddy in North Carolina lists a $14.99 introductory monthly rate, while Cans2Curb in Florida lists a standard curb-out-and-return service starting at $49/month. These are examples of different business models and local markets, not an average or recommended price. Verify current offers directly: Bin Buddy and Cans2Curb.

Five checks before taking a paying customer

  1. Confirm that the local collection schedule, property rules and customer authorization allow the proposed service.
  2. Time a permitted practice curb-out AND return. Count waiting, walking and both route trips.
  3. Include an honest allowance for your labor, transport, equipment, basic liability cover and administration.
  4. Define included bins, collection days, missed pickup, inaccessible bins, winter safety and cancellation terms.
  5. Test whether customers want this precise service at a feasible price before spending on equipment or advertising.

Frequently asked questions

Can I offer curbside bin help without a car?

Possibly, where a walkable route, safe conditions and customer permission make it practical. Model the real travel minutes and do not assume that being close by removes liability or scheduling requirements.

Does monthly revenue equal profit?

No. Subtract transport, supplies, fixed costs and the value of your work. The calculator displays a residual after those allowances, not guaranteed net earnings.

Do I need to purchase the kit?

No. The free calculator is complete. The optional kit is designed for repeated quotes and first-job administration, not access to the underlying arithmetic.
